Hagan Comments on President’s Remarks on Christmas Day Attempted Attack
Tuesday, January 5, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) today commented on President Obama's afternoon address about the Christmas Day attempted terrorist attack.
"As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, improving our national security and ensuring we have both the policies and resources we need to fight terrorism are among my top priorities. The attempted terror attack on Christmas Day was a stark reminder that our nation faces an enemy that is determined to cause us harm. I commend the courageous passengers who prevented completion of this horrific plan.
"The men and women of our intelligence agencies work tirelessly to protect our nation from terrorists. They frequently risk their own lives in service to our country, a point tragically driven home by the recent attack in Khost. However, given the information that was available about this violent extremist, I agree with President Obama that in this case, the intelligence community should have done more to connect the dots. I will be working with my colleagues in the Senate and the administration to ensure that we have the systems we need in place to protect Americans from terrorists."
